MSC Cruise Ready check-In

How do I opt into MSC Cruise Ready biometric check-in during the web check in process?

Guests checking in for a cruise departing from the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal will be presented with a prompt (in the MSC for Me app or via a web browser) to opt into biometric processing for their embarkation.

What are the benefits of biometric check-in?

MSC Cruise Ready biometric processing is the quickest way to get onboard and start enjoying your cruise. Opting in allows you to present your passport and verify your details at what we call a "Facepod" after entering the terminal, which simultaneously scans your passport, takes a photo of your face, verifies your cruise reservation, and verifies you match your passport. This eliminates the need to wait for a staff member to manually verify your details. Once finished at the Facepod, guests continue through security screening and then proceed to what we call an E-gate, which matches your face to your previously verified details and automatically opens to allow you straight onto the ship.

If I did not consent to MSC Cruise Ready biometric check-in in advance can I still use this line when I arrive at the terminal?

Yes, it is possible to opt into MSC Cruise Ready biometric processing after arriving at the terminal. However, we recommend opting in during the check-in process to ensure your embarkation is as quick as possible.

If I do not opt-in to MSC Cruise Ready biometric screening, do I go through a different line for terminal check-in?

Staff members are available to process guests manually if they opt out of MSC Cruise Ready biometric processing.

How does the technology work?

The "Facepod" scans your face, scans your passports, matches the two, confirms your cruise reservation, and temporarily stores your unique biometric data while you’re in the terminal. The E-gate then matches your face to your biometric signature, allowing you to board the ship. Once onboard the ship, your biometric data is discarded.

Will my data be utilized for any other purposes?

MSC Cruises discards the biometric data once you’ve boarded the ship. It is not used for purposes other than your cruise embarkation.

Is there any age restrictions for checking in children?

There is no minimum age, but children must be at least 3 feet and 6 inches tall to use the MSC Cruise Ready biometric check-in process.

Is the MSC Cruise Ready biometric check-in line wheelchair accessible?

Yes, all steps of the MSC Cruise Ready biometric check-in process at the terminal are wheelchair accessible.

Are there instructions specific for Yacht Club guests?

MSC Yacht Club guests may be directed to a dedicated lane for biometric processing, but the underlying procedure remains the same.

Is MSC Cruise Ready biometric processing available during the disembarkation process as well?

Yes. On disembarkation, you pass through the same E-gates you encountered when boarding. When walking through in the opposite direction, a camera takes a photo of your face and compares it with the biometric data maintained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). CBP’s system processes the data immediately, either clearing you to leave the area or requiring you to go through secondary screening with a CBP agent.
