summer 2020 - discover the beauty of the eastern mediterranean

Greece | MSC Cruises

The Eastern Mediterranean in the summer is a must: vast blue seas, immense heritage and unique, laid-back culture. Next summer, MSC Sinfonia, MSC Musica, MSC Opera, MSC Lirica, MSC Orchestra and MSC Magnifica will depart from Venice and transport you to breathtaking locations around the Eastern Mediterranean, each with their own unique, stylish, and modern interiors. The ships will visit several exciting destinations, including Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, Albania, Malta and Slovenia.

Mykonos

Mykonos is one of Greece’s most trendy yet charming islands. A mix of culture provides a unique vibrancy between the traditional whitewashed maze of Mykonos and the more modern hotels, beach bars and restaurants. The labyrinthine layout was designed to bewilder 18th century pirates who had tormented the town. The archaeological museum, folklore museum, Paraportiani (the oldest church in Mykonos) and Lena’s House (a 20th century merchant home) are just several intriguing places of historical significance. We also can’t overlook the plethora of delicious local cuisine on offer. Tangy feta, fresh fish, creamy tzatziki, and chargrilled pork chops are just a few of the local delicacies. A number of MSC cruises will visit Mykonos as part of the Eastern Mediterranean itineraries available next summer.

Santorini

With its whitewashed houses, volcanic geology and gorgeous sunsets, Santorini is the archetypal Greek beauty. Its beautiful beaches, framed by sheer cliffs, are scattered across the island with the towns Kamari and Perissa hosting some particularly stunning stretches. The village of Oia is a must see, located on a cliff top and known for its gentle pace of life and picturesque views over the volcano of Palia and Nea Kameni and the island of Thirassia. The food on the island is delightful, with local cuisine to try including Fava me Koukia, Tomato Gefthedes, Saganaki and of course fresh Greek Salad! Join us in Santorini next summer as part of our cruise itineraries to idyllic islands in the Mediterranean.

Corfu Island
Corfu is one of Greece’s most elegant islands, filled with historic areas, intricate streets and traditional architecture. The historic centre boasts several districts with stunning architecture and captures Greece at its authentic best. A visit to the Byzantine Monastery of the Virgin, home to a community of monks, is a must. Next on the list we would recommend a trip to the 19th-century Achilleion Palace in Gastouri which includes spectacular gardens containing statues of figures from Greek mythology. Corfu is also home to the largest waterpark in Greece – Aqualand – which is an ideal destination to cool off from the summer heat! As you might expect, sampling the traditional cuisine is difficult to avoid given the marvellous smell of food that fills the streets throughout the day and night. Local products such as fresh fish, meat, olive oil, cheeses and deserts such as Kataifi and Baklavà are well worth sampling. A number of MSC Cruises will visit Corfu 2020 next summer – sign up now to avoid missing out on experiencing this paradise in Greece.
