PMI01GC - CITY TOUR (approx. 4 hours) - 2013/2014
Sightseeing tour of Palma with a photo opportunity at Bellver Castle, an historic Gothic fortress. You will have free time in the Barrio Gótico (Gothic Quarter) with a visit inside the Gothic Cathedral, built in 1230 on the foundations of an ancient mosque. Spanish traditions are kept alive at the “Plaza de Toros” where bullfighting events still take place whilst another Majorcan tradition, the creation of imitation pearls, can be witnessed at the pearl factory next door. Majorca pearls have been made on the island since the XIX century and are renowned worldwide for their quality; only experts can tell them apart from real pearls. Please note: conservative attire is recommended for visiting sites of religious importance.

PMI02GC - DRAGON'S CAVES (approx. 4.5 hours) - 2013/2014
Speleology is the study of caves and all those with a keen interest in geology and natural phenomena will be bowled over by what is one of the world’s most interesting cave complexes created by the erosion of the sea. At 2 km long, the caves feature a series of lakes, including Martel Lake, the biggest underground lake on Earth. The atmospheric mood will be heightened by a memorable concert staged on small boats. Back above ground, we will have time to visit the pearl factory at Manacor before returning to the ship. Please note: the visit to the Caves is along steps and slippery ground so this tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or using a wheelchair. Taking photos or shooting videos inside the Caves is prohibited.

Leave the port and drive to the typical village of Valldemosa to visit “La Cartoixa”, an historic XIV century Carthusian monastery. Wander the peaceful cloisters, the monk’s cells and old pharmacy before continuing to another architectural sight from the same period, King Sancho Palace. In total contrast to the humble monastery, this was built as a winter residence for the kings of Majorca and is an exercise in splendour and opulence; thus it is surprising to learn that the earliest incarnation of the Palace was as a monastery. Palace visit followed by time for shopping. Please note: conservative attire is recommended for visiting sites of religious importance.

If you’d like a more energetic alternative to enjoying all the relaxing amenities on board your ship, this tour may prove to be just what you are looking for. This entertaining tour of Palma will see you mount a mountain bike and pedal your way around town while enjoying the wonderful Majorcan sunshine. A friendly guide will take you on an informative guided tour around Palma’s main attractions, which include its labyrinthine historical quarter and the Arab Baths. PMI16GC - VALLDEMOSA & LA GRANJA MANSION (approx. 6.5 hours, lunch not included) - 2013/2014
Leave the port for the Valldemosa, a typical Majorcan village, and visit the Valldemosa Charterhouse, a 14th century Carthusian monastery. Wander the peaceful cloisters, the monk’s cells and old pharmacy before continuing to another architectural spectacle from the same period: King Sancho’s Palace. In absolute contrast to the humble monastery, the palace is an exercise in splendour and opulence. Built as a winter residence for the kings of Majorca, it also served for a time as a monastery. Your to visit the palace includes a 10-minute piano concert. It will be followed by some free time for shopping or lunch (not included). Then continue on to La Granja, a stunning 10th century mansion featuring a variety of styles from different eras and surrounded by diverse garden, ponds and natural fountains. Witness a model of self sufficiency in medieval Majorca on an estate with infrastructure that was dedicated to agricultural production. We will return to the port afterwards.
