Belgium

The country of Belgium is home to two languages, Flemish and French (the ‘Walloons’) and a small number of German speakers.
Belgium has two key regions, the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders in the north and the French-speaking southern region of Wallonia. Belgium lies on the North Sea and is part of central Europe, sharing borders with France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Part of the European Union, the local currency is the Euro, and Belgium was one of the founding members of the EU.

Belgium has an extremely strong artistic heritage; famous masters include the 15th century painter Van Eyck, Brueghel and the Baroque artist, Peter Paul Rubens. More contemporary artists include Hervé, the famous author of the celebrated ‘Tintin’ books.
