The country's eastern shore lies on the Indian Ocean. Tanzania is one of the countries that our MSC vacations travel to during our South African cruise itineraries, and we call at Zanzibar, an archipelago of islands off the east coast.

The ‘spice island’ of Zanzibar (also called Unguja) is home to the capital, Zanzibar City which boasts a historical centre called Stone Town. In this UNESCO heritage site, the houses are made from coral stone, minarets soar above the bay and the scent of spices wafts on the breeze.

Zanzibar has lovely warm vacation weather throughout the year and the coral reefs and rich marine life around the island make the seas here perfect for snorkelling and diving. Rich in wildlife, nature-lovers will be eager to come ashore in Zanzibar to glimpse the red colubus monkeys (although very rare) as well as a myriad of bird life and wild butterflies.
