A leisurely 4-hour coach drive through desert scenery to Luxor, followed by crossing the Nile, will bring you to the West Bank and the three royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Sights along the way include the mortuary temples at Deir el-Bahari with the temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the statues of Amenhotep III, also known as the Colossi of Memnon, where a photo stop will be made. A delicious buffet lunch at a five-star hotel will be followed by a visit to the Temple of Karnak, a major site of ancient worship where you can view the Hypostyle Hall, Sacred Lake and Avenue of the Sphinxes. Another brief photo stop at Luxor Temple rounds the tour off before you return to Safaga and your ship. SGA02 - LIFE UNDER THE OCEAN WAVE: THE RED SEA SUBMARINE EXPERIENCE (approx. 5 hours) - 2013/2014
The underwater world of the Red Sea is a habitat for a huge variety of multi-coloured fish and other aquatic wildlife, all supported by an extensive coral reef located in Egypt’s coastal waters. This leisurely half-day tour now gives you a chance to spend some time off the ship and take a closer look at this fascinating world, yet stay bone-dry dry at the same time. An approx. 1-hour coach ride will first take you from Safaga to the beautiful Sindbad Resort Hotel in Hurghada. From there, an approx. 50-minute sea leg by motorboat then follows to the submarine platform, where you will be briefed before boarding the vessel. Equipped with camera-friendly panoramic windows, the underwater craft will descend to a depth of about 22 metres and then take you on a 30-minute trip around the Red Sea’s magical aquatic universe, offering you amazing views of the reef’s many flamboyant inhabitants. Prepare for a Bedouin adventure by jeep as you leave the port and drive along a modern road taking you to the breathtaking desert landscape, with photo stops along the way to capture images of shimmering mirages, strangely formed rocky outcrops and the glorious sunset. At the camp, the hospitable Bedouins will welcome you to their tent before showing you the site and their tough living conditions. After a chance to observe how the Bedouin women knead the dough for their typical unleavened bread, you will also have a chance to try it hot from the fire and drink their sweet aromatic tea. Water is drown from a nearby well surrounded by a few sturdy palm trees and is also where the livestock is watered. With each resort hotel having its own private beach, guests are provided with every creature comfort and a wealth of amenities. After 1 hour coach drive and a short city-orientation the tour will end by dropping you at one of the area’s leading resort hotels, where a splendid buffet lunch will be served. SGA06 - "GIFTUN ISLAND HIDEAWAY" (approx. 8 hours, lunch included) - 2013/2014
Enjoy a 1 hour coach drive from Safaga to the marina of the Mashrebeya Hotel in Hurghada to board a typical boat for your 1 hour transfer to Giftun Island, a relaxing haven and ideal for sunbathing. Known for its crystal-clear waters that teem with colourful fish and corals, it is a favourite destination for snorkeling enthusiasts. The lovely restaurant at Paradise will serve you a delicious lunch later in the day. Arabian-style sun-loungers and sunshades are also available for your convenience to enhance your beach experience as you swim or simply relax. Alternatively you may prefer to rejoin the boat for a snorkeling trip off the island. After lunch, there will be more time at your personal disposal until about mid-afternoon when you will board the boat for the return trip to Hurghada.Please note: snorkeling is optional and is offered upon arrival at the island. SGA07 - BEDOUIN EXPERIENCE BY 4X4 (approx 5 hours) - 2013/2014
The drive from Safaga to Hurghada, a major tourist resort along the Red Sea coast, will take about an hour along a surfaced road, before veering off into the desert for another 25 kilometres to reach a Bedouin settlement. With so many compelling views to draw the eye, photo stops will naturally be made along the way. Upon your arrival at the settlement , you will be greeted by the hospitable Bedouins and invited to relax and sample the local aromatic tea in their tent. You can also explore the village and discover how the Bedouin women make their unleavened bread on an open fire. Before you head back in the direction of Safaga, you will have the chance to ride on a camel and sway in time with its movements as it strides majestically through the sandy wasteland.Please note: this tour is not suitable for guests in a wheelchair; a wind jacket and comfortable shoes are recommended. Take a break from the ship, board a modern coach and enjoy the scenic 3.5-hour journey to Luxor, the destination of this luxurious 2-day tour. As you pass through the landscape of Upper Egypt, your guide will provide information on the region’s history and geography. Your stay in Luxor will include visits to the breathtaking Temple of Karnak, the immense columns of Hypostyle Hall, the Sphinxes, the Sacred Lake and – naturally – the famous Temple of Luxor itself, which is located in the centre of modern-day Luxor. Originally built by the two Pharaohs Amenhotep III and Ramses II, the temple was dedicated to Amun-Ra, the god of Thebes. The temple visit will be followed by a buffet lunch in a deluxe 5-star hotel on the banks of the River Nile and time for a quick siesta. After leaving the ship, your guided tour of ancient Egypt begins with a 3.5-hour drive to Luxor across the stunning Safaga Mountains, through desertscapes and small farming villages and over vast stretches of arid land that will take your breath away. Founded in 1,400 B.C., the awe-inspiring Temple of Luxor plus its avenue of Sphinxes, unique red granite obelisk, mosque and huge statue of Ramses II make the first stop. Time permitting, you will also have a chance to browse for souvenirs at the temple shop. The next leg of the tour will take you on a short, but scenic drive to a charming five-star hotel on the banks of the River Nile, from where you will then board a felucca, a traditional wooden sailing boat, for an enjoyable lunch cruising down the river. Next up is the Valley Of The Kings, an impressive wadi that has been carved out of a bleak, dry landscape and is the place where the great Pharaohs chose to bury their dead. Apart from a chance to practise the fine art of doing nothing, go for a leisurely dip in the sea and work on your tan in the hotel’s appealing surroundings, you can also take advantage of various entertaining beach activities. Or perhaps you’d like to channel your inner Jacques Cousteau? Giving you an opportunity to do just that and more, this all-day tour begins with a short coach ride to a leading resort hotel, where you can then select a sun umbrella and a beach chair to begin your day of sun worship, recharging your batteries and swimming in the pool or the inviting waters of the Red Sea. Your day at the seaside also includes a delicious lunch at the hotel, for which you may like to work up an appetite by indulging in various beach activities and water sports such as snorkelling around the extended house reef or scuba diving at one of several nearby diving spots.
