We start our tour along the fjord for a little while before suddenly the road starts winding up the mountainside in 11 hairpin-bends. At the uppermost bend, called the Eagles Bend, we stop to enjoy the fantastic view in front of us. In the distance we can see old farms, stubbornly clinging on narrow shelves high above the fjord. For generations, families were able to make a living up there and today great efforts are being made to restore and preserve these relics of the past. We return via the same road which was completed in 1952 passing several farms where some of the buildings are more than 200 years old. We drive through the village of Geiranger, passing the little octagoanl church before we ascend to the viewpoint Flydal gorge, a well-known sight from many posters. We make a stop here to take in the fabulous view and photograph our ship down on the fjord before we return downhill once more.Price per person $68.00 Adults $48.00 Children
GER06 - NORWEGIAN FJORD CENTRE & SCENIC GEIRANGER - 3 hours - 2011
The Geirangerfjord is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating sights in Norway. The mountains tower above us on both sides and we pass several waterfalls with stories to their names like the Suitor, the Bridal Veil and the Seven Sisters. We start our tour driving along the fjord for a little while before suddenly the road starts winding up the mountainside in 11 hairpin-bends. At the uppermost bend, called the Eagles Bend, we stop to enjoy the fantastic view in front of us. In the distance we can see old farms, stubbornly clinging on narrow shelves high above the fjord. We return via the same road which was completed in 1952 passing several farms where some of the buildings are more than 200 years old. Ascending the Geiranger road that links the district with eastern Norway during the summer months we pass several hotels and right opposite lays the Norwegian Fjord Centre. The Centre is meant to be both an Information as well as en Experience Centre. Visitors will be able to study exciting exhibitions around various themes such as nature, culture and history. The Centre provides an insight into life on the inaccesible famrs that cling to the sheer mountainsides around the fjord. The information comes alive via sound and images. A simulated avalanche provides a graphic demonstration of the forces of nature at their wildest. After the visit we head further uphill to the famous Flydal gorge viewpoint, passing several camping sites on the way. We make a stop here to take in the fabulous view and photograph our ship down on the fjord before we return downhill once more.Price per person $95.00 Adults $67.00 Children
