Cruise to Ijmuiden, Holland, ‘Gateway to the Netherlands’
IJmuiden (meaning mouth of the river Ij) is a port city in the Dutch province of North Holland.
Relax with a boat trip along Haarlem’s canals or soak up history in the city’s equivalent to the Anne Frank museum: Corrie Ten Boom is a museum and former home that pays homage to a courageous family that hid Jews during the Nazi occupation. All it takes is a few hours away from your cruise ship to experience a slice of authentic Holland and to discover some wonderful, but lesser-known cities during your European cruise vacation.
From the A9 take the exit IJmuiden/Beverwijik (A22). Follow the signs IJmuiden and make a left turn at the traffic lights. From the 'Pontplein' (ferry to Velsen Noord/Beverwijk) follow the 'Kanaaldijk' (canal) along the North Sea Canal (on your right). After you've passed the viaduct, exit the two following roundabouts at the second exit. You will drive onto the 'Kromhoutstraat'. On the 'Kromhoutstraat' take the first exit to your right (Strandweg). The 'Strandweg' eventually transitions into the 'Zeehavenweg'. After about 500 meters you will find the entrance to the Felison Cruise Terminal on your right hand side.
The Felison Cruise Terminal can be reached with Connexxion busline 82 to 'IJmuiden aan Zee'. This bus departs from the 'Marnixstraat' in Amsterdam en stops, among others. at Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station and at the Fast Flying Ferry from Amsterdam in IJmuiden. From busstop 'Badweg' it's a 600 meter walk to the terminal. About 10 meters of this route is not paved, so please take this into account if you have heavy luggage or if you have a disability.
Another option is to travel with the Fast Flying Ferry from Amsterdam Central Station to IJmuiden and from there take a taxi to the Felison Cruise Terminal.
From the Beverwijk or Driehuis railway stations about 15 minutes.
