Faroe Island

A cruise holiday with MSC Cruises offers the chance to really escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, and if you’re travelling with us on a Northern European cruise, you can join us on the wild and remote Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean.

If you prefer your beaches rugged and rocky rather than golden and sandy, then the Faroes are for you! Located to the far northwest of Scotland in the Gulf Stream between Iceland and Norway, this archipelago of 18 islands is steeped in folklore, mystery and Viking history.

Despite their northern location, the Islands are not particularly cold, as the Gulf Stream keeps the climate moving; even in winter, temperatures do not usually fall below 3 degrees.

Although part of the Kingdom of Denmark, the islands are self-governed and have their own language - Faroese - in addition to Danish. The local currency is the Faroese krona.

Join us for a day off the cruise ship; fill your lungs with the wonderful clean, pure sea air as MSC Cruises helps you discover the island of Streymoy and the lovely capital town of Torshavn in the south. Here the multi-coloured wooden harbour-side houses will seem reminiscent of Norway’s fishing ports.

Stroll the town and venture to the heart where tar-blackened houses topped with grass turf roofs offer a glimpse of life in the Middle Ages - yet Northern Europe’s oldest capital is still bustling with life today.
