MSC Cruises introduces Denmark’s best-kept secret, AarhusDid you know that Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark? Less well known than the capital, Copenhagen, Aarhus should definitely not be out-shone by its sister cities! Aarhus is located on the east side of the Jutland peninsula and is a delightful, historic city that merits more renown. Aarhus is a key point of call during the MSC Cruise Lines itineraries around Northern Europe and the Nordics. With a centrally located cruise terminal, our luxury cruise liners can dock a convenient 10-minute stroll from the city centre. Aarhus is steeped in history, and our selection of shore excursions offer carefully planned sightseeing packages in and around the city, as well as the best deals on major sights. Not to be missed is the exceptional Old Town, ‘Den Gamle By’, with coloured, timber-framed buildings and a comprehensive open-air museum depicting life in the Viking era. You can also visit Clausholm Castle, which dates back to the 1690s, or The Church of Our Lady which, built in 1060, is thought to be the oldest church in Scandinavia. School-age children and history buffs will be keen to visit Moesgård Manor, an archaeological museum and home to Grauballe Man, the best-preserved bog body from Iron Age Europe and one of most spectacular prehistoric Danish finds. With its delightful gabled waterfront houses, Denmark’s ‘oldest city’ also has many modern delights; from stylish shopping in the Latin Quarter to a dedicated ‘food district’ in Frederiksbjerg. |
