A unique coastal environment, vibrant culture and entertainment
Recife is one of the largest and most important cities on the north east coast of Brazil. An historic city dating back to 1535, Recife is characterised by its laid-back holiday ambiance, great urban beaches along a unique coastal environment, vibrant culture and entertainment.
Portuguese is spoken here and ‘Recife’ (pronounced ‘hee-see-fee’) means ‘reef’, in reference to the reefs that are found off-shore and which you can swim around during your stay here.
There are many ways to spend your vacation time off the MSC luxury cruise ship; those looking for total relaxation can kick back on ‘Boa Viagem’, not only the best local beach, but arguably one of the finest in Brazil. Alternatively, you could take a trip back in time to the historic, 16th century towns of Igarassu and Itamacara where our day trip combines history with a trip to the Marine Manatee Centre, giving you a chance to see these quiet, large grey mammals in a natural environment (makes a great day out for kids, too).
City slickers may prefer to spend their day off ship exploring Recife itself; discover the ‘Venice of Brazil’ by boat, shop for souvenirs, visit the sights including the old gaol and pretty colonial churches in a great guided tour that will help you quickly get a feel for this fun destination.
Whatever you choose, remember that MSC excursion packages always include the most attractive deals on local sights, which will help you enjoy your time in Recife even more!

However, these conditions are relieved by a near absence of extreme temperatures and pleasant trade winds blowing from the ocean. January is the warmest month, with mean temperatures ranging from 30°C to 25°C, with sun; July experiences the coolest temperatures, with mean temperatures ranging from 27°C to 22°C with rain.
The temperate figures shown are based on monthly average weather conditions for the selected port. Weather data is not real-time, and sometimes no data is shown for a specific date, month or port in general.
