BER08 - BERGEN BY LAND AND SEA (approx. 3.5 hours) - Bergen, Norway
This comprehensive tour will give you a really thorough introduction to Bergen, a lovely city that nestles between the sea and the mountains. Having reached its commercial peak in 1100 through a profitable trade of dried cod, Bergen continued to flourish as the main trade centre in Norway. Its historic past can be seen at the German pier and in Bryggen, a traditional area with fine examples of Hanseatic buildings and gabled wooden houses. The unglamorous days of the cod trade have been left behind, as today this area has been reincarnated as a fashionable hub, with trendy restaurants, tasteful souvenir shops and inviting pubs. However, one can still stroll through this historic district and gain a sense of what it was like to live here during the Middle Ages. The walking tour will be followed by a 1.5-hour coach ride through Bergen and the surrounding area, after which you will board a ferry near Lyse Island for a relaxing cruise along the small Lysefjord (not to be confused with the Lysefjord close to Stavanger) and around the Bergen archipelago before arriving back in Bergen. On this scenic one and half hour-long cruise you can view Bergen from a different perspective and fully experience the delights of this attractive town and its idyllic setting. Please note: the order of the visits may vary: some groups will start the itinerary by boat and return to the pier by bus. This tour is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties or using a wheelchair.

BER10 - FLØIEN MOUNT AND VILVITE SCIENCE CENTRE (approx. 3.5 hours) - Bergen, Norway
The tour starts by taking you past Bergen’s Festival Hall, the Rosenkrantz Tower and the old warehouses in Bergen’s historical Bryggen quarter before arriving at the cable railway to go up Fløien Mount. The ride on the funicular train is an experience in itself and once at the 320-metre peak, you can enjoy superb views of Bergen and even the North Sea at times. On your return from the mountain, the tour continues by coach past Bergen’s market square and central park. The final stop is at the hugely entertaining and interactive VilVite Science Centre. Among the many interesting exhibits, the “Northern Lights” video explains the spectacular natural phenomenon that occurs only in the winter months and only in the Polar circle. Do you want to be a TV weather forecaster, a captain on a ship simulator or ride a police motorcycle? This is just a small selection of more than 100 hands on exhibits you can try in our exhibitions. Lots of fun and much to learn for both grown ups and children. Please note: there may be long queues at the cable car station.

The pretty and bustling Norwegian town of Tromsø, situated on the small island of Tromsøya, is a place of art, history, excellent cuisine and a sophisticated nightlife. Your tour of the town begins with a stop at Tromsø Museum for a look at its collection of Sámi artefacts, archaeological finds, religious art exhibits and an intriguing machine that simulates the Northern Lights. The tour then continues towards the so-called “Arctic Cathedral”, a place of worship that is actually a church.
