HGL02 - HISTORIC BUNKER TOUR  (approx. 1.5 hours) - Helgoland, Germany
Due to its ideal strategic North Sea location, the island of Heligoland was developed as a sea fortification during the 19th and 20th centuries. As part of these activities, a bunker was created for the purpose of accommodating 3,500 people during WWII. After the war, the British used the island as a detonation site for seized ammunition. The 6,700 tonnes of explosives detonated by the British in 1947 – known as the “Big Bang” – has gone down in history as the biggest non-nuclear explosion ever. It also changed the topology of the island and created the so-called Middle Land. The remaining parts of the bunker are open to the public today. Its history is brought to life with illustrations, pictures and stories. Please note : guides available only in German. Comfortable, sturdy shoes and warm clothes are recommended as there are 180 steps to get in and out of the bunker and temperature inside the bunker is constantly between 12-14°C. This tour is not suitable for guests who have walking difficulties or using a wheelchair. This tour is not available on following calls: 22.05.2013 + 13.08.2013.

After the brief 1-km boat transfer, you will continue on a guided nature walk to explore the island. A knowledgeable guide will explain the flora and fauna to you and of course you will visit the grey seals. Have your camera ready to capture photos of these gorgeous creatures as they enjoy the sun.  SOQ09 - THE REAL MARY KINGS CLOSE: THE STREET THAT TIME FORGOT (approx. 4.5 hours) - South Queensferry, United King
When you make your way through Scotland’s charming capital and down the Royal Mile, you would never suspect that some of its historic closes lie deep beneath the calm surface: “The Real Mary King’s Close: The Street That Time Forgot”. Opened to the public after meticulous restoration in 2003, “The Close” provides an accurate sketch of Edinburgh in the 17th century. Your tour begins with a coach drive from the port into Edinburgh, whose location on a series of extinct volcanoes makes a fittingly dramatic setting for the Scottish capital. Then it’s down to the dimly lit Mary King’s Close, the most characterful and historically accurate of a whole network of streets beneath the City Chambers of the Royal Mile. These buried streets provide a first-hand feel for how both the rich and the poor lived in these crowded conditions all those years ago. As a winning mix of storytelling and multimedia, the Mary King’s Close experience is sure to entertain and inform in equal measure.  IVG07 - LOCH NESS PANORAMIC (about 3.5 hours) - Invergordon, United Kingdom
Take a trip to Loch Ness, one of Scotland’s most popular destinations and the site of an abiding modern monster mystery. After leaving Invergordon, a comfortable coach will take you along the Cromarty Firth, a North Sea inlet, for a first brief stop at Beauly en route to the village of Drumnadrochit, whose elevated position affords spectacular views of Loch Ness, the UK’s largest body of freshwater by volume. But the loch’s greatest claim to fame is its alleged star resident: the Loch Ness Monster, aka Nessie. Thought by some to be one of a small group of otherwise extinct plesiosaurs, Nessie has fuelled the imagination of countless explorers ever since the story broke in the early 1930s. Have your zoom-lens camera ready for a shot of the elusive creature – you’d make history if your photo proved Nessie’s existence. The route then continues along the main road flanking the loch, with more stunning scenery before you reach the loch-side Clansman Hotel – about as close as you can get to the water without needing a boat. As one of the prettiest spots Loch Ness has to offer, this is the perfect place to take some more photos before you return to Invergordon. Please note : limited number of guides in languages other than English. Should a tour guide for your language be unavailable, the tour will be provided in English only. The scenic coach ride to this UNESCO World Heritage Site – one of the best preserved Neolithic villages in Northern Europe that even predates Stonehenge – will take you through rich farmland, rolling hills and stark moors. Occupied from c. 3,180 B.C. to 2,500 B.C., Skara Brae remained hidden under a large knoll until a severe storm in 1850 uncovered the outline of several roofless buildings. Overlooking the River Liffey, the castle provides views of the Four Courts, a majestic structure dating back to 1785 and now the home of the Irish Law Courts, as well as Customs House, which was built between 1781-1791 and epitomises the great era of prosperity and elegance that Dublin experienced in the latter half of the 18th century. The tour continues over the River Liffey via O’Connell Bridge, takes in the splendour of O’Connell Street’s fine old buildings and then heads for Leinster House, the stately mansion now housing the two chambers of the Irish Parliament. Originally erected for the Duke of Leinster in 1745, the building oddly features two very different façades: the Kildare Street side resembles a large town house, whereas the rear, looking on to Merrion Square, is styled in the manner of a country mansion complete with sweeping lawns. After some free time for lunch or some shopping, you will embark on your riverboat trip down Dublin’s famous river. Your boat guide will provide insight into the history of Dublin and of the River Liffey as well as tell you the story behind the iconic Ha’penny Bridge and Gandon’s masterpiece, the majestic Custom House.
