A little haven of fun and energy
Travel two hours north of Rio de Janeiro, and far from the hustle and bustle of the city you’ll find Búzios, a former tiny fishing village that would have been lost to the world had the French actress Brigitte Bardot not made it her favourite beach destination in 1964. Bardot’s endorsement catapulted this colourful and lively beach-front port town to fame.
Often likened to Saint Tropez, Búzios has a real holiday feel. Its former incarnation as a little fishing village has been preserved, but it has successfully married authenticity with modern-day glamour, much like the famous French actress herself! In fact Bardot has had a lasting influence here; a bronze statue of Brigitte Bardot can be seen along Rua das Pedras, and ‘Bardot Street’ (Orla Bardot), is found just off the tender wharf and connects beaches to Buzios’ main shopping street.
After browsing the colourful stalls and shops why not make like Bardot and top up your tan on one of the town’s excellent white sandy beaches. All are served by water taxi, which is the best way to get around.
