AN MSC CRUISE
Eco Ship

Eco Ship

The sea is an ecosystem rich with life and diversity – a fragile system which can be damaged by harmful emissions. MSC Cruises respects the ocean, aiming to carry our passengers around the world with a minimum of effect on the sea itself. We maintain high standards in disposing of waste materials and monitoring our energy usage, doing our utmost to minimize the impact of our ships on the ocean water. Our continuing commitment to ensuring our vessels are as eco friendly as possible ensures that passengers on an MSC cruise will be able to enjoy the lagoons of Venice, the clear seas of the Caribbean or the crystalline fjords of Northern Europe – without worrying about the effects of their holiday on the environment – preserving these beautiful locations for future visitors.

Recycling of waste water
AWT – Advanced Water Treatment is a system that recycles and treats waste water according to the highest legal and eco friendly standards.

Energy conservation
An Energy Saving System is installed an all the cabins and public rooms, to automatically monitor electricity usage. This reduces fuel consumption and gas emissions that are harmful to the environment by powering down unused systems.

Optimization of air-conditioned areas
Cabin Monitoring manages climate conditions in cabins at all times; automatically intervening in any instance of wasteful overuse of air conditioning systems.

Intersleek® 900
MSC Fantasia, MCS Splendida and MSC Poesia, have their hull painted with the new revolutionary paint ‘foul release’ with fluor-polymers, a non toxic substance which helps reduce CO˛ emissions through the reduction of fuel.

MSC Fantasia is the first ship that has been awarded the prestigious Six Golden Pearls award by the international classification society Bureau Veritas.

Six Golden Pearls is an integrated voluntary program that certifies corporate compliance with the three highest international standards in the areas of environment (ISO 14001), health and safety (OHSAS 18001) and food safety (ISO 22000). It includes an extra notation Cleanship 2 AWT, for the 3 domains “potential pollution”: air, water, waste.

MSC Cruises has received many other ec- friendly awards and certificates for its commitment to safeguarding the environment from the BUREAU VERITAS. These include:

· CLEAN-SEA2 and CLEAN-AIR, which recognizes companies that control the funnel emissions of their ships and those that treat these emissions in order to achieve as close to zero impact as possible.

· GREEN PLANET AWARD - launched in 2000 for hotels with eco-friendly facilities, this award has become widely recognised by the industry and subsequently has also been extended to cruise ships.

· CIAL AWARD “COMUNI RICICLONI 2008” – awarded by CIAL (National consortium for the recovery and recycling of aluminum packaging) for an aluminium recycling project started in 2007 on board MSC fleet.

· VENICE BLUE FLAG - MSC Cruises was the first company to adhere to the agreement, which governs the ships transiting the canal of Venice using diesel oil and reducing their sulphur emissions.
