You will have glimpses of the Legislative Palace, considered as one of the three most beautiful legislative buildings in the world because of its marble structure. Then continue to “Battle y Ordoñez” Park with its vibrantly realistic ox cart monument, the obelisk and the “Estádio Centenário”, World Soccer Monument, due to the fact that at the “Estádio Centenário” was held the first World Soccer Cup organized by FIFA. The excursion includes an internal visit to the Museum with an exhibition displaying the 1924, 1928, 1930 and 1950 Archives of the Uruguayan national team’s four world championships. Then on to the “Pocitos” and “Carrasco” residential area to admire the magnificent private residences as well as Hotel Casino Carrasco, an imposing building overlooking the coast and rich with tradition and history. Leaving the pier in a comfortable drive through Montevideo’s quaint old City and waterfront area, where you will learn the saga of the German battleship Graf Spee with your guide adding colorful commentary about what is considered to be the First World War II Battleship. You will continue the drive to Plaza Independencia to visit the Memorial of General Gral Artigas before heading to Battle y Ordoñez Park with its vibrantly realistic ox cart monument, obelisk and Estádio Centenário, considered a world soccer monument as it hosted the first world soccer cup in 1930. You will see the legislative Palace, considered one of the three most beautiful legislative buildings in the world because of its marble ornate structure before visiting the Prado Park, located just northwest of downtown, this lovely park is well known for its historical monuments and attractive gardens before arriving in the Bouza Winery, a family born business and the love to the countryside and its products. Bouza have grown but kept the tradition production stages to maintain the quality of its wines all the way from the vineyard to the glass of wine. The family believes that in this way they will reflect their personality in their wines. After the visit to the vineyards you will visit the winery and the vineyards to learn all about the production and even enjoy a winetasting of 3 different types of wines served with made home breads, selection of cheese including the grissini cheese, cold meat and toast. Highlights include the Old City, Constitution Square, Cathedral and Colonial Town Hall, Solis Theatre, and Independence Square. View the Government House and the Congress Building constructed between 1908 and 1925. Drive through the Prado neighborhood, one of the oldest parks in the city that hosts the famous sculpture La Diligencia, Monument to the last Charruas Indians, and the Rose Garden. Drive through the Battle and Ordonez Park, passing by the Obelisk, La Carreta (Covered Wagon) Monument and the Soccer Stadium. A brief stop will be made at Plaza Virgilio with the monument dedicated to the Fallen Soldiers of the Navy and an impressive view of the city. In 1986 after a massive riot the penitentiary was evacuated and remained empty for years. In 1992 begins the refurbishment and in 1994 the shopping center Punta Carretas was opened. The entrance gate is the original penitentiary gates, but the rest was all totally renovated. The mall has over 300 stores and among the many varieties find in the shopping, guests will find, clothing, jewelries, accessories, toys, electronics, photo, sportswear, etc. Notes: Lunch is included in this excursion with a glass of wine or a bottle of water.
