Look forward to Planters’ Punch, sunshine and reggae as you cruise to the Jamaican port of Falmouth in the Caribbean Sea with MSC CruisesConsidered to be one of the best-preserved Georgian towns in the whole of Jamaica, the port of Falmouth lies on the island’s northern coastline in the parish of Trelawney. With Montego Bay a short drive to the west, Ocho Rios to the east and the virgin rain forest of Cockpit Country in the southern corner of the parish – a nature reserve that is home to yellow snakes, the giant swallowtail butterfly and various bird species – Falmouth is the perfect spot from which to embark on your Jamaican experience. Soak up the colonial vibe of Falmouth with its beautiful Georgian buildings as you sip a cocktail and watch the sun go down over the Caribbean Sea from the comfort of one of our luxury cruise liners. Founded in 1769, the town was carefully planned with all mod cons from the start, including a piped water system ahead of even New York. The architectural legacy left by this era is evident at every turn, with particularly noteworthy buildings being the courthouse and the waterfront district, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once out of town, the Caribbean resorts of Montego Bay and Ocho Rios make ideal destinations for beach life, scuba diving, snorkelling and swimming with dolphins. The verdant interior of the island, by contrast, boasts various cave systems that are noted for their natural beauty. Whatever may take your fancy, you can trust MSC Cruises to make your holidays the best time of year.

FMH03 - Jungke River Tubing (3 hrs) - 2013/2014
Treat yourself to bags of fun on this exciting and scenic river tubing tour down the Martha Brae River, giving you plenty of time to both enjoy the ride and the spectacular landscape to either side. The river itself is said to have been named after the ancient legend of an Arawak witch called Martha Brae who is alleged to have known where gold was stashed. With the aim of seizing the hoard, the greedy Spaniards then captured the witch and forced her to show them the way. However, far from taking them to a Jamaican El Dorado, the witch led the unsuspecting Spaniards to a cave they only believed to hold their prize. On the witch’s release, she invoked a spell that changed the course of the river, causing the cavern to flood. You can make up your own mind as to what might have happened to the Spaniards. The waters of the Martha Brae are known to contain precious stones – some of which you may spot – and also represent the route that runaway slaves would take in days gone by in a quest for freedom. To round off your tour, you can pay the so-called Trading House a visit, the only store of its kind in the Caribbean, to browse through the merchandise or purchase souvenirs, pottery and photos. Please note: food can be purchased at an additional cost and storage lockers are available for rent.
