Newport – a city where you can step off your luxury MSC cruise liner and cross the threshold of the rich and famous.

This wonderfully elegant and refined New England city has a long and fascinating history characterised by the fames and fortunes that have come, gone and left their mark. Newport was the playground of the fabulously rich and famous during the golden days of America’s Gilded Age (1865 – 1901) when super-rich industrialists (including the Vanderbilts and Astors) built elaborate homes; known locally as ‘summer cottages’.

These extravagant displays of wealth and elegance are now open to the public. Not to be missed are the palatial Italian-Renaissance- style “Breakers” and “The Elms”, a 1901 French-style chateau. Newport also boasts much earlier history, including the oldest synagogue in North America and the 17th century Bacon’s Castle, thought to be the oldest surviving house in North America.

But it is not just history buffs that will have a fantastic day off the ship in Newport. Sports fans have plenty to see, in particular the historical centres dedicated to tennis, the America’s Cup and yachting.
Culture vultures are catered for in every season from the Winter Festival to the legendary summer folk and classical festival. Simply wandering the pretty harbour fronts with the signature Newport lighthouses will inspire a true holiday feel, as will strolling the famous Cliff Walk.

However you choose to spend your time in Newport, as always, we guarantee to offer the best packages and deals on day-trips to ensure you get the most from your vacation.
